On July 29, 2010, Health Canada’s Sodium Working Group released its recommendations for a Canadian sodium reduction strategy. The working group recommends specific voluntary sodium-reduction targets in foods and calls on Health Canada to establish an independent monitoring system to track progress made. The strategy aims to address major health concerns that have arisen from the fact Canadians currently consume more than twice the amount of sodium required in their diet.
Marc Valois, senior consultant with the Intersol Group, was hired by Health Canada to provide strategic advice to the Working Group throughout the consultative process. He also provided facilitation services during all Working Group meetings and stakeholder engagement events. In addition, Intersol provided a virtual collaboration platform to assist the Working Group with the development of the final consensus report.
