Client: The Council of the Federation
Solution: Stakeholder Engagement and Public Consultation
The need for engagement: A changing landscape
Fresh challenges associated with postsecondary education and skills training demanded new strategies and approaches from the Council of the Federation, a body founded by Canadian Premiers to foster greater interprovincial-territorial collaboration and collective leadership on important national issues.
Yet any new direction from the Council had to be informed by input from a wide range of stakeholder groups: students, colleges, universities, business, labour organizations and provincial and territorial governments.
Shaping the solution: Facilitating dialogue
Intersol worked with the Council of the Federation to design a summit that would gather some 300 stakeholders, including provincial Premiers and ministers. We provided bilingual facilitation services over the course of the event—leading, as part of that work, 14 concurrent breakout discussions and guiding the process of reporting back from those breakouts to the plenary session and eight attending Premiers. Assessing the outcomes: Finding strength in collectivity Together, stakeholders identified common issues of concern and generated ideas, targets and options to shape the Council of the Federation’s actions moving forward.
