The need for engagement: Bridging the generations
Statistics Canada employees span four generations: the Traditionalists, Baby Boomers, Xs and Ys. Recognizing that this diversity was posing challenges for managers, Statistics Canada decided to hold a conference on intergenerational management practices.

Shaping the solution: Opening the lines of communication
Intersol was brought in to develop the conference agenda, plan the logistics and facilitate the conference itself. Guiding all of these activities were the conference objectives: to generate awareness and appreciation of diversity; to increase understanding of the impact of intergenerational differences in the workplace; and to help managers better accommodate diversity.

Assessing the outcomes: Achieving new understanding
The Intersol team helped Statistics Canada create an interactive, open environment for discussion and successfully managed the conference to ensure key messages around diversity were reinforced. Participants reported having a positive learning and networking experience and felt that the conference achieved its stated objectives.
